Busy bee

Nico got his 15 month check-up and immunisation against MMR and hib. The visit was pretty informative, with the GP giving me a copy of a Denver II chart. This chart maps out a range of milestones (gross motor, language, fine motor and personal) that most children are expected to meet up until six years-old, such as walking up steps, speaking 6 words, building a tower of 2 cubes, feeding a doll, etc. So much for forgetting about milestones; now I'm stressing up about it again and have been spending a great deal of time building towers with Nico. Rather, I'm building them and Nico's bulldozing them. Anyway, I have the copy of the Denver II chart as a pdf file if anyone wants it e-mailed... Just ask.

We then took him to Taupo for the week-end to see Uncle Thijs and his medieval pavillion and some jousting. Amazed Mummy & Daddy by agreeing to sleep without much fuss in a portacot in the motel room. Made Daddy proud by not even blinking when the canons boomed nearby. I'd almost think he was deaf, had I not known better (that is, by trying to sneak into his bedroom without waking him up and abysmally failing).

Pit stop at the Honey Hive shop

The following week-end was a 3-night camping expedition to Kai Iwi Lakes. Timing was a mistake. The MMR jab was starting to take effect, affecting Nico's appetite and temperature. I spent the first two nights waking up every hour or so, making sure that he wasn't too hot while I was freezing my butt off. It was hard to fight the instinct to cover him up anyway, thankfully he had been to A&E before and I remembered the paramedic saying that it was a misconception. There really is a silver lining to everything, even a visit to A&E.

Still feeling a bit under the weather

Note to self: do not let Nico go into any body of water without a nappy on. Floaties are not fun to clean up.

Nico now walks pretty well and can even hold a ball in his hands while taking a few steps. He's just learnt to kick a ball and is enjoying it. Let's hope he won't take the sliding doors for a football goal.
